Sun Keynote at MatrixOne Global Customer Conference Highlights How Customers Are Leveraging Low-Cost Computing Strategies to Reduce Total Cost of Ownership

MatrixOne Global Customer Conference, Orlando, Fla. -- February 2, 2004 --
MatrixOne, Inc. (NASDAQ: MONE), a leading provider of collaborative product lifecycle management (PLM) solutions for the value chain and Sun Microsystems, Inc., (Nasdaq: SUNW) today announced a joint program to deliver MatixOne PLM solutions on Sun´s x86 systems, including Sun´s forthcoming AMD Opteron processor-based systems. This new offering will extend MatrixOne´s support for Sun´s Solaris 9 Operating System (OS) and the Sun Java Enterprise System, enabling customers to effectively leverage high-performance, highly scalable, low cost platforms for their PLM implementations.

The two companies made the announcement today from MatrixOne´s Global Customer Conference (GCC2004), an event gathering hundreds of the company´s customers, PLM industry experts and thought leaders. As part of his keynote presentation at the conference, John Loiacono, vice president, Operating Platforms Group, Sun Microsystems, spoke about how making packaged PLM solutions available on low-cost computing platforms, provides new alternatives that reduce the total cost of ownership of PLM deployments.

˝Deploying an effective PLM environment to enable collaborative product development across partners, suppliers, and customers is critical,˝ said Loiacono. ˝By combining the strengths of MatrixOne PLM solutions with the scalability and security of Sun´s Solaris OS and Java Enterprise System running on our x86 systems and AMD Opteron processor-based systems, customers now have the low cost infrastructure platform they need to build and deploy innovative PLM solutions. Also, customers can now rapidly scale those solutions as their businesses grow to improve productivity and cut costs across the entire value chain.˝

˝MatrixOne is committed to providing its customers with the products they need in order to have successful PLM implementations,˝ said Sam Zawaideh, vice president of products and solutions at MatrixOne, Inc. ˝Our global customer base is continually looking at ways to transform their business by embracing strategies such as outsourcing product design efforts to offshore partners. This requires the reliability and performance that Sun´s Solaris OS-based systems offer. By extending our support to x86 servers, customers will now have more flexibility and reduced risk in their deployments.˝
