Equipment Donation Reinforces Web Site Capacity During Successful Campaign to Unite Children and Families
WASHINGTON, DC -- September 29, 2005 --The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children(R) (NCMEC) announced today that Sun Microsystems, a long-time supporter of the organization, has donated technological equipment to fortify the organization´s web site in order to assist them with their efforts to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina.
˝Our web site has been a critical tool for uniting children and families who have been displaced as a result of the devastation and destruction caused by Katrina,˝ said Ernie Allen, president and CEO of NCMEC. ˝We are grateful to Sun for their assistance to ensure that everyone will be able to easily access photos and information regarding their family members.˝
John Marselle, COO for Sun Microsystems Federal and involved with NCMEC board since 1995 said, ˝When NCMEC contacted us, we did not hesitate to donate whatever they needed, as the organization has been such a valued partner and long-time friend to Sun. And now with the web site being such a vital component to the Katrina relief and recovery efforts, we knew there could be no delay. Sun is proud to be a part of such a noble cause and looks forward to continuing its strong decade-long partnership with NCMEC.˝
In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, the U.S. Department of Justice asked NCMEC to staff a hotline to take reports of displaced and missing children, children who are attempting to locate their parents or guardians, and missing adults. Since Labor Day, NCMEC has been uploading pictures and information regarding adults and children from Alabama, Louisiana, and Mississippi to the Katrina Missing Persons Page. The web site also contains success stories and pictures from family reunifications. To view this information go to www.missingkids.com.
