AMD´s Athlon 64 X2 dual-core processor will feature in PCs manufactured by Acer Inc., Dell Inc.´s Alienware, Hewlett-Packard Co., and China´s Tsinghua Tongfang Co. Ltd., the company said. The new PCs, which are optimized for use with streaming media, will be available beginning in June.
The chip maker is looking to grab market share from Intel, whose Core Duo processor powers many PCs, including models of Lenovo Group Ltd.´s ThinkPad line and Apple Computer Inc.´s MacBooks.
The AMD Live Entertainment Suite allows a PC to distribute content to other devices via a home network, such as music to a stereo system and video to a television. Some of the applications are available for free download.
AMD debuted the Live brand at this year´s International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
