Final version of the NIST IT security guide

Madrid, March 1 2005 - The National Institute of Standards and Technology
-NIST- has published the final version of the security guide for protecting US federal IT systems and the information they contain.

This document offers a series of recommended actions for information security controls based on the FIPS 199 system. Its objective is to protect the confidentiality, integrity and availability of all federal information systems that don´t make up part of the national security system.

Even though the NIST is aimed at US federal agencies, its content and conclusions could nevertheless be useful in other environments, both governmental and private sector.
