Madrid, August 3 2005 - In the first half of 2005, security attacks have increased 50 percent, according to the latest edition of Global Business Security Index, a study produced by IBM and reported in the IT Observer.
The report reveals that in the first half of the year, more than 237 million security attacks were launched. Leading targets were the government sector -more than 54 million incidents- followed by industry -36 million-, financial services -approximately 34 million-, and the healthcare sector with more than 17 million.
In its report, IBM also highlights the resurgence of phishing attacks for laundering money and identity theft now carried out by gangs of specialized criminals. According to the survey, in the first half of the year, more than 35 million phishing attacks took place to steal confidential information for financial gain.
IBM also reports that the ratio of spam to legitimate mail has decreased, dropping from 83 percent in January to 67 percent in June.
