Madrid, August 2 2005 - Cisco has reported a security problem affecting Cisco Internetwork Operating System (IOS) with IPv6, and has released a patch to resolve the situation.
This vulnerability in Cisco IOS, the operating system that controls the majority of Cisco devices, affects systems configured to process IPv6 packets. The problem could allow a remote user -in the same local network segment as the device- to send a specially-crafted IPv6 packet to the interface of the affected device in order to cause a restart or denial of service conditions or even to run arbitrary code.
More information on the vulnerability and the update provided by Cisco, depending on the affected version, is available in the advisory published by the company at: http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/707/cisco-sa-20050729-ipv6.shtml
