Trojans responsible for the majority of attacks in September reports PandaLabs

10/2/2007. - In the last month, Trojans were once again the most active type of malicious code, according to data compiled from the Panda ActiveScan online antivirus. Specifically, they were responsible for 25.94% of infections.

Close behind in second place came adware, -software designed to display advertising on computers-. This type of malware was the culprit in 23.39% of infections.

“This data confirms the trend among malware creators to use malicious code for financial gain. Both Trojans and adware are particularly useful in this sense”, confirms Luis Corrons, Technical Director of PandaLabs.

Worms were in third place (8.39%), followed by backdoor Trojans (3.77%) –which allow unauthorized access to computers- and spyware (3.2%). Other threat types that caused problems during the last month included dialers (3.02%) and bots (2.48%).

For the fourth month running, the Downloader.MDW Trojan was the specific malware strain most frequently detected by the Panda ActiveScan free online antivirus. Second and third places in the list were occupied by two new malicious codes: W32/IRCbot.BEP.worm and Downloader.OZB.

ZLFake.A.drp and the Lineage.BZE Trojan were in fourth and fifth place in the Top Ten, having both dropped down the ranking since the previous month.

Next came the Trojan Downloader.PYI, followed by the only two worms in the ranking: Puce.E and Brontok.H.

September’s Top Ten ranking was completed by ZlFake.A and Downloader.PCQ.New
